DRAMATURGY & MOVEMENT DIRECTION

Sula Castle is a dramaturg and movement director currently based in London.

Sula Castle is in the initial stages of developing a dynamic practice in dramaturgy. They are currently studying on Lou Cope’s dramaturgy course Doing Dramaturgy and receiving mentorship from Eve Stainton. Sula also has an ongoing dramaturgical relationship within their own choreographic work with Tim Casson, as part of their Associateship at Sadler’s Wells Theatre.

Drawing on their experience as a guest lecturer at Trinity Laban, The Place and Northern School of Contemporary Dance, as well as their own research and choreographic work, they aim to work collaboratively with fellow artists, using creative reflection, project goal setting and genuine conversation to guide their projects towards their most integral form.

Sula combines their knowledge across choreography, dramaturgy and fascilitation to feed their work as a movement director for live art, dance on camera and editorial work.

As part of their final degree submission at Trinity Laban, where they graduated with First-Class Honours, Sula conducted a year-long research project on the concept of "aesthetic knowledge." This inquiry involved a critical examination of our aesthetic intuitions and how these feed our artistic intelligence and identities. Enriched by their training and performance experience as a dancer, Sula integrates their visual intelligence and embodied knowledge to realise concepts from their conception.
